Forest School

WHAT IS A FOREST SCHOOL?

Forest School is a long-term program to develop children’s play, exploration and to help support their risk taking and learning how to be safe when in a natural environment. Forest School has been proven to develop a child’s confidence and self-esteem as they learn through hands-on experiences in nature.

A Forest School leader believes that learning is always ongoing; they provide opportunities for children to learn and develop, observe what each individual child is doing, their interests and their attitude during each session, and will then use this to develop the child’s learning, adding more to the session.

At St Vincent's Nursery, our Forest School sessions are carried out both in and outside our setting to allow the children to get the most out of their learning and development.

We use our own outdoor facilities, the school’s designated Forest School area, and King George’s Pond to carry out the sessions.

Sessions are delivered in blocks of 6 weeks. The last session of each block will involve setting up campfires and making hot chocolates, to which parents will also be invited.

Forest school sessions are delivered by our fully qualified and appropriately trained Forest School Leader, Beth Froggatt. Beth is supported by Meg Bellfield. Both Beth and Meg are extremely passionate about outdoor learning and make each session unique for the children.
